Concept Map:
Share the concept map you created with you classmates. If you created your
concept map by hand, scan it or take a picture and share the file. If you used an
online tool, you can either share a screen shot or url.
Along with your concept map, include your answers to the following questions:
1. Where does creativity come from?
2. Is “Ice Ice Baby” a rip-off of “Under Pressure”? Or is did Vanilla Ice remix
an existing bass line to create something original?
Comment on at least two other posts. How did your classmates' concept maps
differ from yours? How were they similar?
1. Where does creativity come from?
In my opinion, creativity comes from inspiration, motivation, knowledge and, most
of all, imagination. “Creativity” is derived from the word “create” which means to
make something that has never been made before. I find it very difficult to try to
create things on my own. When I am having a lot of difficulties, I will use
someone else’s work as inspiration. Sometimes, instead of only using another’s
work as inspiration, people take their work and pretend that it is their own. This is
called plagiarism or copywriting. Other than inspiration, you can use your past
experiences, to aid you in creating something. For example, most songs that are
written are based on what that singer/rapper has been through.
2. "Ice Ice Baby" a rip-off of "Under Pressure"? Or did Vanilla Ice Remix an
existing bass line to create something original?
In my opinion, “Ice Ice Baby” is not a rip-off of “Under Pressure”, Vanilla Ice only
sampled the song. Sampling a song is when an artist borrows and reuses music that
another artist created. Although these two songs sound similar, if you listen
closely, you will realize that they are not identical. Firstly, these songs don’t have
the same message. “Ice Ice Baby” is about two people’s wild weekend adventure
and “Under Pressure” is about all of life’s stresses. Secondly, these groups don’t
even sing in the same genre of music. Vanilla Ice’s genre is more on the hip-hop
side of music and Queen’s genre is more on the rock and roll side.
