The role of the BSN nurse in the promotion of community health is to provide care and health promotion practices to all vulnerable populations in the community. Specific topics include foundations of Community Health Nursing, epidemiology, factors that influence community health, community assessment, health promotions across the lifespan, vulnerable populations, population health problems, and disaster management. Specific concepts of the course include the evolution of the community health nurse, epidemiological concepts used in improving community health, the impact of politics on the community, observing and describing the community by conducting a community needs assessment and performing a windshield survey, describing various health concerns of populations across the lifespan, identifying healthcare challenges of vulnerable populations, learning the lasting effects of substance abuse,
