The Functions of The Skeletal System
The skeletal system comprises of the tissues that enable essential functioning of the body,
cartilages, bones and ligaments. All these forms the skeletal system that function to either protect
the body internal organs enable movements and support the body parts. Other functions of the
skeletal system of the body are blood cells formation and the storage of fats and minerals
(Watson et al.). The body skeletal system is also imperative because it gives the human body its
aesthetics. The skeletal system has different components meant to perform different functions
depending on which part of the body they are situated.
One of the main functions of the skeletal system is facilitation of movement in different
parts of the body. Compared to other body systems, functions of the skeletal are the most
observable ones. For instance, one can easily feel that the bones support different parts of the
body. The cartilages and bones in the skeletal system form the scaffolds that enable it to support
other parts of the body (Watson et al.). As the bones support the body, the cartilages facilitate the
smooth movements of the bones at the joints where whole bones move over each other. As a
semi rigid connective tissue, it forms the smooth surfaces for movements and flexibility. The
bones and the cartilages also support the weight of the body.
The skeletal system also facilitates movements of different body parts. For instance, the
ligaments connect bones together enabling movement of different parts of the body. The
