LINGUISTICS: INFORMATION GAP ACTIVITY
Information gap activity When teaching students might experience an information gap, and this is where students do not have the full information, they need to accomplish an activity or task. Becaus e of this, information gap activities are introduced where students are expected to actively engage in speaking activities through team work so that they can fill the gaps of the missing information. the importance of gap activity is that students are given the opportunity to actively speak and communicate forming new vocabulary, and parts of speech. Complete the text is an example of a gap activities that is helpful filling a gap of information for students. Complete the text, takes place by creating two different version of a story, and in each story, different information has been removed and students are prompted to fill in the missing information. In one of the stories, characters names and places might be removed and students have to guess the correct answers to fill the gaps, and this helps them learn about nouns. On the other version adjectives and verbs can be omitted. The activities should be divided between different groups of students, where they are expected to work together to fill in the missing information. For it to work, students have to ask each other questions and finally make a decision based on everyone’s opinions. The goal of such activities is usually to practice different parts of speech such as nouns, pronouns, adjectives and verbs. The activity also works best by making the missing gaps hard to guess so that the students can have deeper conversations and this also allows them to explores other vocabulary. At the end, the two groups are prompted to compare notes. The teacher then guides them through the exercise and they are able to grasp more from their correct and wrong answers. Show Less
