The situation I have decided to address is about Shane who has a difficult time
separating from his mother each morning. At drop off, he clings to her and screams
uncontrollably. After she leaves, Shane continues to scream and cry until you are able to
soothe him. This fear exhibits itself in a child’s crying and protesting when the caregiver
leaves, and this usually develops about 6 to 8 months of age. (Vonda & Barnett, 1999),”
The Plan
The plan for addressing the approach as an educator I must be clear regarding my
approach to how I handle situations that may arise. I should first have open
communication with families so that we are all on the same page. Working together to
come up with a plan to help Shane transition without having a difficult time. In
Montessori, they see a child at each stage of their development working on becoming
independent and separating. As an educator I need for the parent’s to trust me so my plan
is to greet Shane with a hug and reassure the parents by stepping in to help with goodbyes
and make sure that the family is comfortable. I will let have a one on one with Shane’s
Parents and express to them how important it is to have a routine in the mornings when
dropping him off and it needs to be consistent. I will explain to her that she needs to give
him a hug and kiss and reassure him that she will be back to pick him up once school is
over. I will ask them to send something to school that usually comforts them at home.
Once the Parent’s leave I will begin to have interaction with him so that he can begin to
