Chapter 1: the science of psychology (topic 1)

Psychological science = study mental activity and behavior, predict and understand.
 research of mind = mental activity, brain = biological processes and behavior = action

Critical thinking = systematically questioning and evaluating information using well-
supported evidence. Important because everybody and the media can be wrong.

There can be biases  that can be if the opposite is true. That is not a lack of intelligence.
Sometimes we see patterns that doesn’t exist.

Chapter 3: biology and behavior

Nervous system = network of billions of cells in your brain and body  moving, sensing,
choosing  for us? How does the nervous system work?
 nature and nurture work together to affect human behavior

What is the genetic basis of psychology science?
- genes  each human has them from their parents  personally traits
- environment and genes are interacting
- gene expression  process gene is off or on
