Assignment NO: 4 – Facial Skin Conditions Treatment
Marking Criteria:
We expect the learners to write minimum one well expressed point in three lines against each
allocated mark. This means one needs to write 15 lines with 5 well expressed points to get high
grades for a 5 marks question. For high grades use examples and illustrations where appropriate.
1i – A beauty therapist through her professional expertise and appropriate skincare treatments
can help every client in improving the condition and appearance of their skin.
ii – The eyelashes are cleaned by stroking the cotton wool in downward strokes beginning from
the base of the eyelashes and finishing at the tips.
iii – Lips are cleansed in small circular movements going from right to left.
iv – The basic formulation of moisturizer is oil and water.
v – Unfortunately skin tightening cannot be achieved by steaming.
vi – Before applying steam, protect the clients eye using damp cotton wool pads.
vii – For towel steaming, continue heating and replacing towels for 10 minutes.
viii – Exfoliation is a technique used for removing dead cells from the skin.
ix – The last step is deep cleansing is to apply slight pressure at the temples.
x – Moisturizer provides a barrier between the skin and cosmetics.
2i – Typically a facial would take between 60-90 minutes to complete. An express facial usually
lasts around 30 minutes and includes cleansing, exfoliating, toning and moisturizing but is unlikely
to include any specialist equipment.
ii – For a client with oily skin, the aim of the facial would be to improve the condition and
appearance of the skin. To do this, after washing my hands I would begin by applying a cleansing
treatment. Cleansing removes dirt, pollutants, and makeup from the surface of the skin. As the
client has oily skin, I would use a water based (lighter consistency) cleanser. I would cleanse the
eye area with eye makeup remover and stroke the length of the eyelashes in downward strokes. I
would then be using the cleansing lotion and apply it across the upper lip section in small circular
movements going from right to left. I would then pour some cleansing lotion onto my hands to
cover the neck and face. Clasping my fingers together I would start at the base of the neck and
unlink them as my hands move upwards on the neck. After I have worked the product on the face,
