1. English as an international business language
English has spread as a language all over the world, yet it is not used as much in
multinational companies as people think. There are a few ambiguities that arise with English
as a business language.
First, semantics, words do not really have a meaning on their own and only get it in a specific
sentence. Yet statements can come across as not intended.
Another example, sociolinguistics. Every country has its own customs. An example of it is
that 'thank-you' in English as an answer can have a completely different meaning than
'merci' in French. These habits can also create ambiguities when using English as a business
language.

Re: Meeting at online Asia-Pacific Tourism Forum event
Dear Mrs. Deng,
For me it was also a great pleasure to meet you online at the event. Thank you for your
interest in my family, we enjoyed the summer holiday. I hope you and your family enjoyed it
too.
It is great to hear that Four Rivers Tours wants to collaborate. I have attached an overview
with the predictions of trends for the next five years in the Dutch outbound market.
It is an honor for us that your organization wants to hold a joint presentation at the
upcoming event. VTB Tours is looking forward to the future and the great collaboration with
Four Rivers Tours.
With best regards,
Jean Arthur
