Inleiding:
Filosofie komt van het Griekse filein (= houden van) en Sophia (=Griekse godin van de wijsheid)
Wijsheid is vrouwelijk -> vrouwelijke intuïtie, terwijl de geschiedenis van de filosofie een verhaal is
van mannen (vanaf 20ste eeuw verandering).
Oorsprong van de filosofie?
1. Zo oud als de mens zelf -> diepzinnige vragen stellen = filosofisch bezig zijn
Plato: filosofie begint met verwondering = de bron van onze zoektocht om te begrijpen wat
er zich voordoet in onszelf en de wereld
2. In een bepaalde periode en binnen een bepaalde cultuur
- Westerse filosofie in 6e eeuw v.C. rond de Egeïsche zee
- in het Oosten rond dezelfde tijd Upanishaden, Mahavira en iets later ook Boeddha
- in China Confucius -> sociale filosofie: taoïsme
‘Ontstaan’ Westerse filosofie?
Van mythos naar logos
= van wereldbeeld gebaseerd op mythen, Goden, fantasie naar wereldbeeld met meer rationele
verklaring, belang van observatie en argumentatie -> natuur uit de natuur verklaard
Mythische wereldbeelden in alle culturen en tijden
in Westerse cultuur: de Odysseus =de weg die de mens aflegt in het leven om zichzelf terug te
vinden, tegen alle verleidingen in het leven in en de Ilias (Homerus) en de Zondeval (OT) =het gevolg
van kennis en oordelen, lijden is ons lot door te oordelen
Omschrijving en indeling van de filosofie:
De filosofie bevindt zich tussen wetenschap en religie, dit zijn 2 fundamentalistische disciplines
waardoor de mens de hoogste graad van beschaving heeft bereikt. Soms dichter tegen de één, dan
tegen de ander, afhankelijk van of het gaat om rationalistische filosofen of filosofen die overhellen
naar een mystieke visie op de dingen.
Francis Bacon (16e-17eeeuw) -> aanzet wetenschappelijke methode, lanceerde begrippen inductie en
experiment
-> leidde een eeuw later tot natuurwetten van Newton en fysica -> later ook biologie, scheikunde,
sociale wetenschappen en menswetenschappen
-> filosofie is moeder van alle wetenschappen
Wetenschap is objectiveerbaar, zichtbaar en meetbaar -> wil verklaren
Filosofie en religie is vragen over zingeving of ethische kwesties
