 Incidental music to Sophocles Oedipus by John Dryden
 The Oedipus legend comes from Greek mythology
 A tragic story about how Oedipus kills his father to marry his mother before
committing suicide
 The song features Alecto (a goddess whose job was to punish those who had
killed their parents).
 Alecto was a medusa like monster with snakes for hair, a dogs head and bats
wings and a whip.
 In the Aria the music calms Alecto until she drops her whip and the snakes fall
from her head.
 Transposed from the original key of C minor to a minor.
