The Oedipus legend comes from Greek mythology
A tragic story about how Oedipus kills his father to marry his mother before
committing suicide
The song features Alecto (a goddess whose job was to punish those who had
killed their parents).
Alecto was a medusa like monster with snakes for hair, a dogs head and bats
wings and a whip.
In the Aria the music calms Alecto until she drops her whip and the snakes fall
from her head.
