NR 501 NP Week 3 Concept Analysis- Compassion Fatigue-Chamberlain College Of Nursing Concept Analysis: Compassion Fatigue Nursing may simply appear to be carrying out tasks ordered by a provider to many patients and families. Most only see the surface of what nursing care consists of, failing to realize that decades of research and concept implementation have fine-tuned the current art of nursing. Concept analysis allows nurses to take a generalized idea and explore it further by examining previously developed nursing concepts, giving the nurse a guideline to perform competent nursing care. Concept analysis, as defined by Raiesifar, Parvizy, Bozorgzad, Poortaghi, Davoudi, and Masoumi (2019), is a research method that allows for an expansion of knowledge regarding a chosen concept, therefore aiding in performance by clarifying and increasing understanding of the idea. By allowing nurses and nurse practitioners (NP) to gain a better understanding of the concept, they can develop theories to explore and research, allowing them to discover ways to provide better care to their patients. One nursing concept pertinent to nurse practitioners is compassion fatigue. Watson’s theory of human caring is a wonderful example of an accompanying nursing theory that addresses the concept of compassion fatigue that many healthcare providers experience. This theory is important because it emphasizes the importance of treating and caring for a patient as a person and not just as a job. Through the examination of compassion fatigue, a literature review, attributes, an antecedent and consequence, empirical referents, construct cases, and theoretical applications, compassion fatigue will be explored and discussed to gain a better understanding of this important nursing concept.
