, INTRODUCTION

Objective

1. To investigate the involvement of carbon dioxide in the processes of photosynthesis

and respiration in an aquatic plant.

2. To demonstrate that photosynthesis depends on the input of light energy.

Photosynthesis is the process by which plants convert light energy into chemical energy.

Photosynthesis is a natural process. After being absorbed, light energy is converted into chemical

energy which is then used to convert CO2, water, and other substances into oxygen, glucose, and

other essential nutrients.

CO2 + H2O = C6H12O6 + 6O2 (This occurs in the chloroplasts of cells)

While cellular transpiration is a series of chemical reactions in the mitochondria of cells that

break down sugars. In the presence of oxygen, releasing energy as a result of the process. Carbon

dioxide and water are produced as waste products as a result of this process.

C6H12O6 + 6O2 = CO2 + H2O (This occurs in the mitochondria of cells)

Photosynthesis and carbon dioxide are both essential components of the carbon cycle. The

carbon cycle is the movement of carbon between living and nonliving parts of the environment.

Carbon in decaying organisms is converted into fossil fuels. Will be released back into the

atmosphere through combustion in automobiles and factories. Photosynthesis allows organisms

to utilise carbon dioxide, thereby removing it from the atmosphere.
