Nord und Südkorea sind zwei Länder, die einst ein Staat waren, einejahrhundertelange gemeinsame Geschichte und Traditionen teilen und die
heute eine dicke Grenze in zwei Hälften spaltet. Es herrscht Krieg.

Korea gehörte einmal dem mongolischen Reich an,

dann stand es unter der Vorherrschaft Chinas.

Ab 1897 war Korea eine Zeit lang ein unabhängiges Kaiserreich, bevor
Japan es für sich einnahm. Aber immer hielt man zusammen, um Stück für
Stück seine Unabhängigkeit wieder zu erringen.

Doch dann kam die Wende. Nachdem Japan Ende des Zweiten Weltkriegs
kapitulierte, wurde Korea zwar unabhängig,

aber in zwei Besatzungszonen geteilt, so wie es damals auch in
Deutschland war. Im Norden übernahm die Sowjetunion die Verwaltung
und im Süden die USA.
So gründeten sich 1948 zwei Staaten Südkorea als Republik Korea und
Nordkorea als Demokratische Volksrepublik Korea. Mit Kim Il Sung an der
Spitze, dessen Familie von nun an generationenübergreifend Nordkorea
anführen sollte.

Und dann fing der Streit an. Nordkorea versuchte mit militärischer Gewalt
Südkorea für sich zu gewinnen. Das führte 1950 zum Koreakrieg auf
nördlicher Seite mit Unterstützung von China und der Sowjetunion und auf
südlicher Seite mit unterschiedlichen Helfern, allen voran der USA und der
UNO. Viele Millionen Menschen verloren dabei ihr Leben und viele Städte
wurden völlig zerstört.
