Final Written Assignment: Persuasive Essay
My husband and I have decided to separate due to different choices and or feelings that
we have. We are not where we once were, and we need to work on some things to see if we can
get back to that right place or if we should coparent and move on. Separation is when a mother
and father separate but are still married to see if anything can rectify itself in their relationship.
Divorce is when a mother and father completely break up, go to court, and file for legal divorce
from each other and are just coparenting or their kids. When parents choose to separate or
divorce the split can be complicated for the children to understand and or grasp fully in their
minds. The concern is usually on why the parents have chosen this route versus how the children
will react or grow or behave because of it. What will the relationship be like when the split
happens? How will the discussion affect the child after the separation or the divorce? When a
child’s parents separate or divorce the changes to their home life, attitude, mental capacity, and
school environment can go from happy to mad to even depressed; as is the situation in my home
life for my kids and me.
Many children become stressed after conditions such as these occur, and others become
more independent and focus on their experience and what things they want to accomplish. There
are many reasons for parents to separate and they include growing apart, sexual, or physical
distance, abuse of mates or children and or infidelity (Hawkins, 2013). One of my kids is okay
with mommy and daddy’s choice but the other child is having a tough time, and I feel powerless
because there are circumstances that need to be fixed before we can move on or not. Many
relationships suffer between the child and the parent and many relationships become better
between the children and the parents because of the separation. It all depends on those involved
and how the situation comes about.
