NR 532 Week 2 Discussion: Role of Management

NR 532 week 1 Discussion
Good evening Dr. Coleman and class,
Most of us feel vulnerable when we move outside our comfort zones. As we move forward
and progress in any career, it is easy to stick with what you know instead of pushing yourself to
progress “outside of your box”. When there is a lack of self confidence in the ability to perform a
person may hide behind familiar behavior and practices that may blur who they really are. This is
a common way to stay safe in your space and not venture outside your comfort zone because of
the fear that you will not measure up to what others expect. This is a natural impulse to protect
ourselves from disappointing others or from being rejected. To move out of this safety zone can
be very difficult and can cause us to feel very vulnerable. Being able to push through tis
vulnerability can also be a very valuable opportunity to learn and grow as a leader. If we learn to
view our self as someone who still needs to learn and grow even as a leader, then our
professional growth will expand as well. By staying with comfortable behavior, meeting new
demands and gaining insight from new experiences will suffer (Ibarra, 2015). Being able to
change with new demands and showing who you really are can also help others see that we are
all less than perfect and are still growing.
The healthcare delivery system that I would implement for me team would be patient centered
care. Patient-centered care (PCC) promoted quality of care and better outcomes. Research has
shown that PCC is a concept that has many layers that can be applied to all aspects of patient
care. PCC supports patient dignity and respect, and uses an interdisciplinary approach to treating
patients that includes cultural values, personal needs and includes family as well (Clarke, Moore,
Steege, Koopman, Belden, Canfield, & Kim, 2016).
Thanks, Vickie
