Upon reflection, we have become familiarized with various aspects of the nursing-
administrator or nursing-executive role and multiple factors that affect parts of the role and
results over the last seven weeks of the course. I have gained valuable insight into the healthcare
system and leadership during this course. I have learned different approaches to developing a
supportive and creative work climate in the healthcare environment, such as creating
collaboration, mutual roles, team involvement, and mentoring (Dyess, Sherman, Pratt, & Chiang-
Hanisko, 2016). I found that a supportive atmosphere not only increases the efficiency of the
providers but also improves the quality of care delivered, total patient outcomes, and overall
effectiveness of health care. In terms of leadership, I learned about applying different models of
leadership, influence, and authority to control and handle followers. It is essential to use the
vision and mission statement for the organization to help plan strategic priorities for the
organization and your particular region. The shared governance model, transformational
leadership model, and steward leadership are essential components of leadership that foster team
coordination and communication. I built my leadership, decision-making, communication,
critical listening, and team leadership skills through this. I plan to use these skills and expertise
in finding and solving quality concerns in healthcare. The skills will help me to manage team-
based projects and share roles between team members for team building.
Additionally, the skills will encourage critical decision-making in my final MSN project in the
light of study priorities, the detection of clinical gaps, potential interventions, and the
implementation of optimal evidence-based intervention. Communication skills would give me
the ability to connect with peers and to exchange information, skills, and experiences to broaden
my field of knowledge. To influence cross-functional and interdisciplinary teams, leaders need to
accept their influence, help recognize educational needs, facilitate constructive communication,
and integrate conflict resolution skills (Joseph et al., 2021). As with the American Nursing
Credentialing Center (ANCC), the American Nurses Association (ANA), and the Nursing
Administration Standards of Professional Excellence, nurse competencies and guidelines endorse
and advocate for nursing practice to a large degree by setting reasonable guidelines and
professional performance standards.
