Hello everyone! I hope you are all doing well.
For my week one discussion, I will be doing option one. For describing the scientific
method I wanted to use an everyday object as an example because I may have already
done the scientific method without realizing it. The example I have has to deal with my
indoor garden. I want to grow fresh chile peppers in my house so I can make my
grandmother's famous spicy gumbo.
Observation: After being planted for a few weeks my chile peppers haven't started to
sprout.
Hypothesis: Maybe since I've been so busy with school I haven't been watering them
as much as I should be. So they didn't sprout because of a lack of water.
Experiment: I set out two pots in which each contained 5 planted seeds, in the same
soil, and in the same spot by the window. One of the pots will be watered three times a
week and the other pot will only get watered one time. In my experiment, the
independent variable was the amount of water for each pot and the dependent variable
was the seeds that sprouted.
Results: After a few weeks, the peppers that were watered three times weeks sprouted
while the other pot that was watered only once a week did not.
Theory: The type of chile peppers that I planted need to be watered at least three times
a week for successful growth.
