Een voedselketen is een reeks soorten
waarbij elke soort wordt gegeten door de
volgende soort. (Begint altijd met een plant)
Alle voedselrelaties samen noem je een
voedselweb.

anorganische stoffen omzetten in
organische stoffen. Deze organismen
noemen we producenten. (Altijd 1e schakel)
Dieren noemen we consumenten ze vormen
de 2e en opvolgende schakels.
Planteneters zijn consumenten van de 1e
orde, een vleeseter die een planteneter
opeet is een consument van de 2e orde enz.
Dieren die planten en dieren eten noemen
we alleseters
De resten die afvaleters achterlaten
worden afgebroken door bacteriën en
schimmels (reducenten)
Autotroof zijn de producenten
Heterotroof zijn de overige schakels

In een piramide van aantallen wordt
weergegeven hoeveel individuen in elke
schakel voorkomt.
De piramide van biomassa gaat over de
totale hoeveelheid organische stoffen per
schakel. In de eerste schakel zitten altijd de
meeste organische stoffen. Doordat planten
stoffen verbranden verdwijnt een gedeelte
organische stoffen, hierdoor blijft er minder
over voor de volgende schakel.
De piramide van biomassa is altijd een
piramidevorm maar piramide van aantallen
niet altijd.
