Week 8: Future Use of Evidence-Based Practice
Week 8: Future Use of Evidence-Based Practice The lesson for Week 8 asks you to objectively reflect on your current use of evidence-based practice. Throughout this course you have worked hard and created a template for an EBP project proposal. Rather than look to the past, this discussion asks you to look to the future—your future as an MSN-prepared advanced practice nurse! You are a nurse leader in your future advanced practice track-based setting. You notice that although nurses say they use evidence-based practice (EBP), you find very few examples of this. As the leader, you decide to develop an environment that fosters EBP. Please respond to each of the following topics. • How would you role model EBP in your future advanced practice setting? Be specific! • How would you foster an organizational culture that promotes EBP? How would you promote EBP throughout the entire organization? • You have one staff member who constantly says, "We have never done it this way—why change?" What actions would you take to change him or her from a distracter to a promoter of EBP? Scholarly references to support your response are required. Dr. Turner and class, (initial post) As an MSN prepared advanced practice nurse, in the role of a family nurse practitioner (FNP), I will pioneer evidence-based practice (EBP) with integrity in the clinical setting. In short, EBP supports the decisions that are made by FNPs thereby contributing to their superior nursing skills, resulting in better patient outcomes, and decreasing ineffective or harmful practices (Agran, Spooner, & Singer, 2017). Evidence ranked as a level one hierarchy will be used to help guide clinical judgment, ensuring a higher level of patient care and quality outcomes. I will also be sure to tailor clinical practice guidelines so that the best evidence is implemented during daily practice (Nurse Practitioner Schools, 2018). I plan to foster or support my healthcare facility with EBP by joining an Evidence-Based Practice Committee and becoming a preceptor so that I can lead by example and continue to pave the way for future FNP students. I plan to promote EBP throughout the entire organization as a teacher, where I will present the most up to date clinical practice guidelines and ensure that EBP tools (such as models) are accessible to all staff. Meaningful change takes time and doesn’t happen overnight. Providing individuals who resist change with the education and patience to support the cause of EBP. Motivation is another significant factor to incorporate, helping those to find their passion and then provide him/her with applicable skills create better outcomes, benefiting the employee and the healthcare facility.
