Deforestation has numerous negative impacts on the environment. This
unstainable, unethical practice, has led to the loss of habitats for many
species of animals, having a multiplier effect on the local food chain, as
well as, the crops available.
On a global scale, deforestation has led to a loss of carbon storage,
which has resulted in more carbon dioxide emissions. In 2015, the
largest wildfire occurred due to the ‘slash and burn’ method of mass
deforestation.
A solution for increasing the sustainability of this practice is that, trees
cut down could be recycled as opposed to being burned; this could help
local economies create new products from sustainable sources. A
positive outcome of deforestation is that it provides more land for other
uses, for example, transport links in developing countries, grazing land
for livestock to satisfy the increased demand of meat. However, it could
become more sustainable by altering the use of the wasted materials.
Overall, assessing the data, I believe deforestation is an extremely
unsustainable practice because of the devastating impact on the
environment.
