Week 5: Roots of Revolution
Consider the role of revolution in governmental structure and culture. Provide an
example from the reading for the week or your experience visiting the National Archives
to explain the relationship between philosophy and political action.

Dear Professor and Class,

The role of Revolution in governmental structure and culture has shaped how we proceed today
with what we know and lead our life. We are still in a process of mastering true freedom and
understanding of this reality and when we do we will see how dysfunctional policy and
government has been, how so many have tried to override the system to work for them so they
can remain free or lead a country with a big ego and enjoy this life while others worked for them.
Freedom has been so skewed. A big shake up in our history is slavery, and this duality forming as
it does with everything else has noted the statement that this is not okay.
Hypocritical is the best way to put it.

“As long as the colonies tolerated slavery, their demand for their own liberty seemed hypocritical.
The English poet Thomas Day (1748–89) described the typical American as “signing resolutions of
independence with one hand, and with the other brandishing a whip over his affrighted slaves.”
(Sayre, 2013, pg. 388).

Humanity has always really learned from facing the darkness of reality first before we start to
make it right. Even Revolution as a word reinforces an evaluation of how we are going to define
the existence in the manner it evolves into. To really be free we must unfold all that it means and
all the ways it affects us and continuously learn from our past mistakes to build a meaningful
conscious system.
