, THE HISTORY OF SLAVERY 2

The History of Slavery
It saddens me to know how slavery has been going on for decades and many people have

been victims of it and still encounter victims of slavery in the twenty-first century. Slavery has

constituted to human rights which has brought various conflicts between Caucasians and African

Americans for generations. It is known to be one of the oldest institutions in human society since

its known to be present in the earliest human civilizations, including ancient Mesopotamia and

Egypt, and continue to exist around the world in modern times (Tallant, 2014). This kind of

actions towards human kind as we know has been going on for decades, you encounter situations

with this during elections, presentations, between civilians and many other locations. Although,

in America we have Bill of Rights that justify that we have freedom of speech, freedom of

religion and many other rights, it is very important to know that we are all equal no matter what

gender, ethnicity or religion we are. When we view the facts on how humans have been treated

unfairly, we start to understand the history of our ancestors and previous civilizations, which

include the way the Native Americans were even treated by pilgrims and vice versa when they

initially met (Railton, 2014). I believe that it is very important to know and understand the

importance of slavery that has occurred throughout time. If we were educated enough on slavery,

we can hope to change history together and assist on helping create different views on others

when it comes to different slavery topics.
Our ancestors and previous civilizations were not the only ones that have encountered

discrimination, which is a form that it is considered to be slavery, but in modern time we

encounter much more of racism that is believed to be one of the major causes of slavery today.

Many African Americans have argued that they do not get treated fairly, but the reality of it is

that in every ethnicity group you will encounter issues in the past and even in the present. As

Henry Louis Gates, Jr and Donald Yacovone (2016) state in their book The African Americans
