The majority of graduates in South Africa struggle to find employment despite having the
necessary college credentials because they lack prior work experience. Additionally, because
the majority of these graduates lack driving abilities, (or driver’s licenses as well), their
employment options are limited.
Moreover, graduates who are looking for work are constrained by their age because most
positions in South Africa aren't open to workers beyond the age of 35.
In Laymans terms, graduates need experience to get employment, but they also need
employment to gain experience.
According to South African statistics results for the year 2019, the unemployment rate for
graduates under the age of 24 is 31%, which is still lower than the rate for people with other
educational levels.
Furthermore, only 3 580 of the 30 000 unemployed graduates in the database actually
finished their university degrees. These findings show that enhancing the South African
labor market still depends on education.
However, it is crucial that these students receive practical trainingthat will help them in the
workplace.
