Assignment Submission Guidelines

In both your QUT study and your professional life you will be expected to meet deadlines.
In keeping with this expectation, assignments submitted after the due date and time of 23:59
pm on Thursday 29 October 2020 will not be marked and a mark of zero will be awarded.

Students should note that this policy will be strictly applied. Please note that QUT's IT
HelpDesk closes at 10:00 pm, so no assistance will be available to students should you
encounter submission issues after this time.

Under Turnitin, students are able to resubmit their assignment on multiple occasions right up
until the deadline of 23:59 pm on Thursday 29 October 2020. This means that if you have
uploaded the wrong version of the pdf file (or if you make changes to the version that you
have uploaded), you are allowed to resubmit your assignment via Turnitin.

Turnitin will automatically override the previous version. This means that the marker will be
able to mark the latest (and most current version) of the file that has been uploaded.

No further submissions or resubmissions will be permitted after 23:59 pm. As such, it is the
sole responsibility of each student to ensure that the complete (and final version) of the
assignment is submitted by the due date and time.

Once the case study has been submitted, students are not able to attach or submit any
additional documentation whatsoever. It is the responsibility of each student to ensure that the
complete assignment is submitted by the due date and time.

Furthermore, please be advised that no submissions will be accepted by the facilitator or the
unit co-ordinator via e-mail after the 23:59 pm deadline.

For all of these reasons, it is strongly recommended that students start working on the
integrated case study as soon as possible. Due to the size of the assignment, please
do not leave this assignment (or its submission) to the last minute.

Furthermore, please check that the online submission has been uploaded correctly (i.e. you
should open the file from Turnitin to check this, once your files have been uploaded). Each
student should check for a digital receipt from Turnitin at their QUT email address as proof of
submission. This e-mail must be retained until the marks for this case study are received.

Return of Integrated Case Studies to Students

Please note that this integrated case study should be viewed by students as a replacement of
the final exam. Like a final exam, this case study will not be returned to students via Turnitin
and no comments or feedback will be provided.

Instead, students wishing to review marks awarded for their case study will need to make an
online appointment with the unit co-ordinator within two weeks of the results for the unit being
released (similar to the other units in the degree).

ASSESSMENT REQUIREMENTS FOR EACH PART

, 4

PART 1: Self-Reflection (10 Marks)

This reflection asks students to attend to the following two (2) tasks:

(i) Prepare a Professional Fee

Prepare a professional fee to submit to Bike Galaxy Pty Ltd. The professional fee
should include a description of each task undertaken in this case study (being Parts
2 to 4) as well as the number of hours taken to complete each task.

Please use a charge-out rate of $200 per hour (exclusive of GST). Please ensure that
the professional fee is placed on your group’s letterhead. Please use your firm’s
letterhead to draft your professional fee on. You do not need to design a new
letterhead.

You can assume that your firm is registered for the GST. The ABN of your firm is 14
901 044 418. Please date your professional fee 16 September 2020.

(ii) Strategies to Communicate Complex Technical Issues to a Client

A professional advisor will often advise their clients on a range of technical accounting
and tax matters. However, in many instances clients do not possess the necessary
financial expertise or technical accounting or tax knowledge to completely understand
the information/advice provided by the accountant.

Throughout your degree, you have acquired a range of technical and disciplinary skills
that will serve you well when advising clients. These clients will come from a variety of
backgrounds and, in some cases, will not understand the ‘language and terminology’
that you would ordinarily use to explain (at times) complex technical accounting and
taxation concepts.

Required:

Identify and explain three (3) strategies that you would adopt to simplify the content
being delivered to clients.

In other words, what strategies could you implement to simplify the financial advice
provided to a client (like David and Jake) where they readily admit that they lack the
necessary financial acumen to understand what you are saying?

You must use 11 point Arial font with 1.5 line spacing. There is no need for references
or footnotes. The maximum number of words is 1,000.
