, 1. Introduction

Globalization has necessitated modifications in the organization's culture of all economic and
social players, most notably businesses, universities, and governments. The progressive
introduction of domestic economies to international competition has necessitated investments
in research and innovation in general, to avoid them becoming outdated and simply disappear.
Success in business is growingly dependent on the ability to compete in this new environment.

Moreover, innovation is now a critical component of competitiveness. It is well understood that
competitiveness and efficiency are affected by a variety of factors that affect not only
businesses but all social organizations (MacGregor & Carleton, 2012). Such primary
considerations should not be limited to the material; they should increasingly include the
immaterial (Caraça, Lundvall & Mendonça, 2009).

In this era of transformation to a knowledge-based economy, it is clear that an interconnected
policy to support innovation is required; such a policy is defined as the development or adoption
of new knowledge as main competitive aspect (Laranja, 2009). This view of innovation
emphasizes not only the material aspects of processes, goods and services, science and
technology, organization and management, but also the intangible dimension of knowledge and
information, intimating primarily a change in attitudes, behaviors, and even social relations.

Thus, this report provides a comprehensive analysis on an innovation done by an organization
using a wide range of managing innovation theory, concepts, models, and techniques. For this
purpose, author has selected a recent innovation done by a wholly owned subsidiary of Sri
Lanka Telecom PLC, which is SLT Mobitel.
