– Distal convoluted tubule (DCT): regulate sodium, potassium, calcium
– Collecting ducts
– Glomerulus to Bowman’s Capsule (water, AA, glucose)
• Vit D: cholesterol metabolite to the active form in the kidney and involved in Ca+ regulation
– Involved in bone density
– Avoidance of osteoperosis
• UTI:
– Acute Cystitis
• Infection and inflammation of the bladder
• Bacteria E.coli (80-85%)
• Ecoli is adapted to infect urinary tract infection
• Enter through fetal contamination
• Evade the umbrella cells that line bladder
• Use Fimbriae to adhere to umbrella cells
• Adhesins: proteins that help E.coli adhere to cell wall
• IBC= e.coli cover with biofilm to protect themselves from the immune system
