INSTRUCTIONS
GENERAL
1. Put your student card on the upper left corner of your table so that it can be easily
checked.
2. Write your name and student number on the answering sheet.
3. There are two Exam versions, please indicate on the Multiple Choice answer
sheet which version of the exam you answer (= Version 1).
4. During the exam, do not place on your table any materials other than:
- Europees Recht Course Syllabus 2016-2017. Make sure it is un-annotated (only
highlighting/underlining, references to Treaty articles and tabs are allowed).
- A copy of the English text of the Treaty on European Union and the Treaty on the
Functioning of the European Union, (E.g. in European Basic Treaties), including a
copy of Protocols 1, 2 and 36. Again, make sure it is un-annotated (only underlining /
highlighting, references to Treaty articles and tabs are allowed).
A Dutch copy of these same texts is also allowed as additional material, for example in
Europese Basisverdragen.
- A printed version of your EU Legal Proficiency Group Wiki, provided this contains no
other information than English-Dutch translations of EU-related vocabulary.
This must be a printout and thus it cannot be a hand-written document. If it contains
multiple sheets of paper, these must be stapled together.
- Not allowed: any form of dictionary!
During the exam, materials will be inspected for annotations. If you doubt whether an
annotation is permitted, you must, before the start of the exam, ask the assistance of an
invigilator and / or you must put the concerned material away.
5. All students have 1,5 hours to finish this exam.
6. The exam consists of 20 Multiple Choice Questions and 1 Open Question. The
Multiple Choice Questions can earn you 80 points, the Open Question 20 points.
1
, 7. When answering the Open Question, always refer to relevant case law, Treaty
provisions, EU legislation, and other relevant sources.
DURING THE EXAM
8. Switch off your mobile phone and other mobile devices and put it (them) away in
your bag (during the exam you cannot leave the room with mobile devices)!
9. You will receive the question sheet with the Multiple Choice Questions and a
Multiple Choice Answer sheet. Once you have completed the Multiple Choice
questions, you must put it on the side of the table with the answers facing
downwards.
10. After completion of the Multiple Choice Questions, you must start with the Open
Questions. These must be answered on a separate answer sheet for written answers.
11. Make sure you reserve enough time to answer the open question(s).
12. If you want to visit the restroom, please raise your hand. The invigilator will tell you
if it is free. You cannot bring your cell phone or other mobile device (e.g.
smartwatches) with you to the restroom. If you do, your exam will be considered
fraudulous and the matter will be brought to the Exam committee.
13. You cannot leave the room before you have handed in both answer sheets.
AFTER THE EXAM
14. The grade you obtain for this interim exam will count for 30% towards your final
grade. However, this exam also allows you to obtain a pass (‘AVV’) for EU legal
proficiency. There are two ways for you to obtain the ‘AVV’:
(1) you obtain at least 55 points for the current exam, or:
(2) for the open question you obtain at least 15 of the 20 points.
15. After the exam, the answers to the Multiple Choice questions will be posted the next
day on Blackboard. The results of the Open Question and the provisional model
answers thereto, will be posted on Blackboard at the latest 1 week after the date of
this exam. Simultaneously you will be informed on how to obtain a copy of your
answers to the open question and also about the procedure for lodging complaints.
The definitive model answers will be posted on Blackboard on the same day as the
official publication of the grades for the exam (see Art. A-3.6 OER).
Good Luck !!!
