Wat is reuma?
Reumatoïde artritis valt onder reuma
Onder reuma vallen veel verschillende aandoeningen, waaronder reumatoïde artritis.
De verschillende aandoeningen zijn onder te verdelen in:
- Artrose (slijtageziekte van het kraakbeen) : 1,1 miljoen mensen
- Weke delen reuma: 240.000 mensen
- Inflammatoire reumatische aandoeningen: 420.000 mensen
- Reumatoïde artritis (ca 50%) = ontstekingen in de gewrichten
Prevalentie: 0,5 – 1,2% in Nederland
Komt bij alle leeftijden voor, meer bij vrouwen dan bij mannen
Reumatoïde artritis vs. artrose
Reuma is een aandoening waarbij je bot ontstoken is.
Bij artrose worst het kraakbeenlaagje aangetast, dit geeft slijtage, de botten bewegen over elkaar.
Hierdoor gaan mensen stijf bewegen.
Bij reumatoïde artritis, zie je soms ook dat mensen stijf bewegen. Maar hier gebeurt totaal wat
anders. Er is een ontsteking van het synoviale vocht (vocht rondom het botgebied). Hierdoor kan er
aantasting van de botten plaatsvinden (= boterosie).
