students are also having kindergarten since they are 3 years old. Whereas the
education is free in Hong Kong, people are still equaling to make an effort in the
superior school that ranked by the public. Not only learning in school, but also
participating extracurricular Activities with the intention of increase the capacity of
students and compete with others. Why parents are so into this kind of competition
while everyone has the same access to education?
To start with. School is an institution that we can gain knowledge and improve
our social class. In Hong Kong, there is an elite culture about if students can get an
excellent school and university, then they can get a job with high salary and improve
social class. People who are failed to get into qualified school, they will be seen as a
loser. But what determined students to have a top school? Academic result is an
actuarialism which is a system calculate people’s value in order to get a better school.
The system of school a miniature of society. From Doyle, society is a mess and
struggle between differently positioned group with different interest. Every position in
school requires a fine grade. When students get a pleasant grade, they often classify as
clever student. Therefore, they can join the discipline team or a chairperson in certain
club. In the school, they have same access but diverse power and level towards the
folk. In the society, people have same entrance to the workplace to advance their
