in this M1 I will be explaining how the supply chain of Heineken beer could be improved. I will do this
with the use of three examples.
The first example that I will be using is how does Electronic data interchange (EDI) improve the
supply chain of Heineken? First we need to know wat EDI actually is, well EDI is using a system of
computers to transfer data from an certain data station to another data station. The nice thing
about using EDI is that there isn’t any human
involved in this process so you don’t have to spent
more money on labour costs. An example of the
usage of the EDI system is for instance if Heineken
runs low on the amount of hop they have to produce
beer the computer notices the low amount of hop in
the inventory. When the computer determines this it
will send a signal to the supplier of hop that
Heineken has got a low inventory so the supplier can
send a new load of hop.
The second question that I’m going to use to improve the supply chain of Heineken is how does a
VPN system improve the supply chain of Heineken? VPN is a system that makes it possible to send
data for a company securely and reliable between two trading partners. The use of VPN has a couple
of advantages it first it has benefits with the flow of
information a few of these examples are that the
information is timely, that the information is accurate
and it’s done by computers so it will save a lot of labour
costs. VPN has also benefits with the flow of materials.
The VPN makes sure that the inventory levels of
Heineken stay at the precise right amount and there is a
higher chance that the customer is satisfied on terms of
demand.
The final question that can be asked to improve the supply chain of Heineken is how does radio-
frequency identification (RFID) improve the supply chain of Heineken? RFID is actually the same as
barcodes but then better. The RFID system consist of a chip that on a product, this chip can be read
with the use of a RFID scanner. The RFID system is so much better then barcodes because with this
system chips can be read more quickly than barcodes. But the
biggest difference between the RFID system is that with barcodes
the information is fixed but with a RFID chip the information on
that chip can be changed. A few examples of the RFID system is
that the information on the chip is up to date, there are less
human errors and the supply chain is more visible. Heineken can
use this system to let customers know exactly what is in their beer
and what the prices of their products are.
