NRS 434VN Topic 3 Discussions with Answers 2023 Grand Canyon
Topic 3 DQ 1 Adolescent pregnancy is viewed as a high-risk situation because it poses serious health risks for the mother and the baby. Describe various risk factors or precursors to adolescent pregnancy. Research community and state resources devoted in adolescent pregnancy and describe at least two of these resources. Research the teen pregnancy rates for the last 10 years for your state and community. Has this rate increased or decreased? Discuss possible reasons for an increase or decrease. Adolescence can be defined as children ranging from thirteen to nineteen years old. Due to the rapid emotional and cognitive changes that occur at this age bracket, adolescents are predisposed to make poor decisions leading to high-risk behaviors that may lead to teen pregnancy (Grand Canyon University, 2018). Risk factors that predispose teenagers to pregnancy may be individual, social, or family risk factors. The individual risk may include ambivalence about having a child, being a victim of sexual abuse, drug use, and alcohol use, sexually active at a very young age, lack of future goals, oblivious about sex or contraception, low self-esteem, poor school performance, etc. Some social factors may include dating at an early age, dating older people, peer pressure from friends to having sex, etc. Family risk factors may include a family history of teenage pregnancies, limited or negative family communication and interaction, poor parental supervision, unsolved family conflict, single-parent families, etc. (Morin, 2018). A resource in the State of Wyoming is the Family and Youth Services Bureau (FYSB) this is a program by the U.S Department of Health and Human Services. The organization was formed in response to the concern of the community regarding the high teen pregnancy rate in the state. The goal is to prevent pregnancy and the spread of sexually transmitted diseases among adolescents, FYSB supports state, Tribal, and community efforts to teach abstinence and contraceptive education. This organization was founded on the belief that reducing the rate of teen pregnancy is one of the most direct means of improving the overall well-being of children and reducing persistent poverty. Furthermore, it provides education and resources about sexuality, sensitivity, and evidence-based programs to teens, parents, community organizations, and schools. Another resource for the state of Wyoming is Wyoming Personal Responsibility and Education Program (WY PREP) This program is 100% federally funded to provide evidence-based, medically accurate teen preg
