Stress not only has damaging effects on your mental state, but it can have huge implications
on your physical well-being too. Stress can cause you to get the most basic of tasks wrong, but there
is help available. An effective stress-management plan can lift the weight off your shoulders. If not
managed properly, it can cause problems with your mental health, your physical health and even
your relationships.
I think we've all had times when we've been too stressed, being from work or home life, and
we feel like we can't go on. A time I've been too stressed is when my daughter’s were born. We
were as prepared as we possibly could have been for twins, but when they arrived and the chore of
working full-time to support this now much bigger family, I felt was quite difficult. It was a 3
month period in my life where I struggled to breathe properly and would wake up regularly in the
night. To overcome this, I discussed the problem with my employer and they were great. I worked
fewer hours, meaning I could get more sleep and I was thinking more rationally about money and
problems.
Three strategies for managing stress are: identify the source, get moving, connect with people
(Robinson et al., 2021).
