1. How is geothermal energy being used in single-family homes? Use the link below to answer items A-D below. (10 points)
The Guide to Home Geothermal Energy
A. What is the principle behind geothermal energy? How can geothermal energy affect indoor temperatures in a home? (3 points)
Using the temperature that underground heat up water, transport that water in pipes as it is heating and uses these pipes to use the steam in the pipes to turn turbines for energy, it affects indoor temperature by
heating the houses through pipes.
B. Describe the components of a geothermal system and how they work together. (3 points)
outdoor temperatures changes with the changing seasons underground temperatures do not. about four to six feet below the earth's surface, temperatures remain constant year-round. A geothermal system capitalizes on these constant temperatures. In the winter, fluid circulating through the system's earth loop absorbs stored heat and carries it indoors. The indoor unit compresses heat to a higher temperature and spreads it throughout the building. In the summer, the system reverses pulling heat from the building.
C. Vertical underground coils use fewer materials than horizontal coils. Why would horizontal coils be used in some places? (2 points)
horizontal coils are exposed to more constant heat so are already warmed up.
D. How could you make sure that a geothermal system used only renewable energy? (2 points)This study source was downloaded by 100000858468549 from CourseHero.com on 04-27-2023 12:10:06 GMT -05:00
