The purpose of this paper is to identify behaviors and interactions that occur during a well-child exam. It’s important to observe both positive and negative interaction to be able to educate the parent using guidelines. The five topics that will be discussed are sleep routines, car seat safety, safety, temper tantrums and discipline, and healthy teeth. Clinical Pearl Issue #1: Sleep Routines

to push and push and get him up and it’s rough. Sometimes I can’t get him to sleep so if he could get some Xanax or some Benadryl or something to put him to sleep that would be great. Mother then states, “he watches TV every night, that’s how he goes to sleep.” Positive interaction/behavior The child able to sleep most of the evenings. The child also has bedtime routine as well.
Guidelines/recommendation It is recommended that all screens be turned off for 30 minutes before the child goes to bed and that any other electronics such as televisions , and screens are not allowed to be in the child’s bedroom.
