Andrew Carnegie Medals - ANSWER-Recognize the best fiction and nonfiction books for adult readers published in the U.S. the previous year. Mildred L. Batchelder Award - ANSWER-Is a citation awarded to an American publisher for a children's book considered to be the most outstanding of those books originally published in a foreign language in a foreign country, and subsequently translated into English and published in the United States. Pura Belpre Award - ANSWER-Is presented to a Latino/Latina writer and illustrator whose work best portrays, affirms, and celebrates the Latino cultural experience in an outstanding work of literature for children and youth. Sophie Brody Award - ANSWER-This award is given to encourage, recognize and commend outstanding achievement in Jewish literature. Alex Awards - ANSWER-The Alex Awards are given to ten books written for adults that have special appeal to young adults, ages 12 through 18. Aurianne Award - ANSWER-This annual award recognizes outstanding books on animal life which may develop a humane attitude in children.Given for the best fiction or non-fiction book written for children between the ages of 8-14 years. W.Y. Boyd Literary Award - ANSWER-This award honors the best fiction set in a period when the United States was at war. It recognizes the service of American veterans and military personnel and encourages the writing and publishing of outstanding war-related fiction. The Amelia Bloomer Book List - ANSWER-The Amelia Bloomer Project, a committee of the Feminist Task Force of the Social Responsibilities Round Table, compiles the Amelia Bloomer List, an annual annotated book list (or bibliography) of well-written and well-illustrated books with significant feminist content, intended for young readers (ages birth through 18). Randolph Caldecott Medal - ANSWER-The Caldecott Medal was named in honor of nineteenth-century English illustrator Randolph Caldecott. It is awarded annually by the Association for Library Service to Children, a division of the American Library Association, to the artist of the most distinguished American picture book for children. Andrew Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Children's Video - ANSWER-The Andrew Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Children's Video honors outstanding video productions for children released during the previous year. The annual award is given to the video's producer by the Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC), a division of ALA, through a Carnegie endowment.
