Los bioelementos son aquellos elementos que forman la materia
viva. Existen en torno a 70 y no son exclusivos de los seres vivos
ya que estos pueden ser encontrados en la materia inerte.
Propiedades:
Los bioelementos son los componentes principales de los seres vivos gracias a
sus propiedades.
1. Al presentar capas electrónicas externas incompletas, pueden unirse
fácilmente, mediante enlaces covalente, con otros bioelementos y de esta
manera formar moléculas estables que se encargarán de realizar las
funciones vitales.
2. Presentan un número atómico bajo por lo que los electrones compartidos
en enlaces estarán situados cerca del núcleo. Esto implica que puedan
formar moléculas muy estables.
3. Debido a la alta electronegatividad del O y el N, las moléculas resultantes
de los bioelementos son polares. Estas moléculas polares son solubles en
agua, lo que les permite participar en las reacciones biológicas. Las
reacciones biológicas se llevan a cabo mayoritariamente en disoluciones
acuosas.
4. Los bioelementos se pueden encontrar, en la naturaleza, formando parte de
moléculas como el CO2, H2O... Estas moléculas pueden ser captadas
fácilmente por los seres vivos. Esto permite el intercambio constante de
materia entre los seres vivos y su ambiente.
