Pathophysiology for The Practical Nurse II PNP401 Subject Name Subject Code
Subject Description
Students will build on PNP301 and continue the study of human disease. The mechanisms of
disease will be studied by body systems. The processes will be related to a variety of common
diseases. Overall, the mechanisms of disease will be studied in a systems format and will be
considered for the effect that they produce on the structure and function of the body. Common
diseases will be used to illustrate the biological concepts of pathology.
Credit Status
Successful completion of this required course provides one credit towards the Practical Nursing
Diploma
Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course the student will demonstrate the ability to: 1. Describe the basic concepts of pathophysiology and the general principles of disease 2. Recognize common dysfunctions of selected organs or organ systems. 3. Examine how the various dysfunctions of an organ or organ system affect the human body as a whole 4. Consider the effects of disease on the structure and functioning of the body 5. Apply knowledge of medical etymology to the comprehension of terms describing pathophysiological conditions

Formulates clinical judgments that are consistent with clients’ needs and priorities by responding to changing situations that affect client’s health and safety.
