Introduction:
This assignment is on the lymphatic system is a network of tissues and organs that help rid the body of toxins,
waste and other unwanted materials. The primary function of the lymphatic system is to transport lymph, a fluid
containing infection-fighting white blood cells, throughout the body. The lymphatic system, or lym phoid system, is
part of the circulatory system, and of the immune system. It is made up of a large net work of lym phatic vessels
and lymphatic or lymphoid organs. The vessels carry a clear fluid called lymph towards the heart .
The lymphatic system plays an integral role in the immune functions of the body. It is the first line
of defence against disease. This network of vessels and nodes transports and filters lymph fluid containing
antibodies and lymphocytes and bacteria. The spleen also helps the body fight infection. The lymphatic system
has 3 main functions them being:
The removal of excess fluids from body tissues.
Absorption of fatty acids & subsequent transport of fat to the circulatory system.
Production of immune cells such as lymphocytes, monocytes, and plasma cells .
In this following assigment I will be explaining the different functions of the lymphatic system in more detail .
