Measuring Frequency - ANSWER Using a direct measure; to count whatever you
are measuring
Rate - ANSWER The ratio of count per observation time (often expressed as per
minute or per session); a direct measure. This is really just frequency with the
addition of a time period; division of frequency/time period--10 pointing
behavior/hour.
Duration - ANSWER The total extent of time that a behavior occurs; direct;
(continuous) measurement. Measurement of temporal extent.
Latency - ANSWER This is the time from onset of a stimulus to initiation of the
response. Another way to think about this is how long it takes for someone to
respond to a cue, prompt, question, etc
Interresponse time (IRT) - ANSWER The time between the end of one response
and the beginning of another (same) response; measures the time between
repetitions of behavior rather than the duration of the behavior itself
The Percent of Occurrence - ANSWER A ratio of measure divided by the total
number of the same measure. Most often it is indicative of the frequency of
occurrence/total frequency such as the number of trials with correct responses
divided by the total number of trials. It can be used with other measures such as
duration, IRT, etc
Trials to Criterion - ANSWER The total number of response opportunities (trials)
required in order to achieve a set level of performance; that is, how many times
did a client attempt a behavior before achieving it? The expectation needs to be
well-defined beforehand (the behavior that must be exhibited during the trials, &
what constitutes completion.
Interobserver Agreement (IOA) - ANSWER The extent to which two observers
agree; agreement increases believability or measurement quality, while not
directly increasing accuracy, validity, or reliability.
Way to Measure IOA - ANSWER Total count IOA, Mean Count per interval, Exact
Count per interval, Trial-by-Trial, Scored Interval, & Unscored Interval
