1)When did the Tiger King stand in danger of losing his
kingdom? How was he able to avert the danger?
Ans. A high ranking British officer wanted to kill a tiger and flaunt it
before his compatriots. He sent a word to the king that he would be
happy if he could just get photographed with the dead tiger killed by
the king when he was not allowed to kill the tiger himself. But the king
was reluctant to his request because this would lead to encourage
other officers to demand the same. The King was very angry upon the
British officer and he was on the verge of losing his kingdom itself. To
pacify the situation and to appease the officer the king and the
dewan sent fifty expensive diamond rings as a bribe to the duraisane
the official’s wife hoping that she would select one or two and return
the rest.But the lady took all the fifty rings. The king lost a few laths
but he finally managed to save his throne and thus was able to avert
the danger.
2) How did Dr. Sadao rise above narrow prejudices of race
and country to help a human being in need?
Ans. Dr.Sadao being a (Japanese) doctor was trained to save lives.
He valued his profession any humanity above every narrow prejudice
like race or country.When an American prisoner of war gets washed
away to his doorstep Dr. Sadao chose to save his life despite the fact
that he was an enemy as there was a war going on between Japan
and America.He was well aware of all the impending danger that he
would bring home to his family and his position along the American
soldier. Basic goodness overpowered Sadao and he helped the

, prisoner of war by not just saving his life but helped him to escape to
a safer place too risking his own life and reputation in this process.
3) How did Mr. Lamb’s meeting with Derry become a
turning point in Derry’s life?
Ans. Derry is a victim of the inferiority complex which is borne out of self
hatred and rejection due to his burnt face that leads him to total alienation.
Mr. Lamb on the other hand had a very positive approach towards his life
despite of having a tin leg and living alone. He teaches Derry that the acid
has just burnt his face but he is doing so much harm to himself from the
inside by living in such despair and negativity. He taught him that alienation
and withdrawal from the world is not the solution to his problem. The brief
conversation that he has with Mr. Lamb changes his perspective towards
life. He decided to never live in seclusion and find a place in the
mainstream of life. He also decided that he will not let his burnt face make
him feel any bad about himself and will not let it interfere his self respect.
Just like Mr. Lamb did not let his handicap to interfere with his peace and
pleasure of life similarly Derry also decided to keep the negativity aloof
and make room for happiness and new ventures in his life
4) How was ‘injured’ McLeery able to befool the prison
officers?
Ans. A fake McLeery impersonated the real McLeery who had been
bound and gagged in his study. The prison police did not investigate or
verify his true identity. McLeery did not go out of prison instead he stayed
inside the cell. Jackson received a call from the Governor that Stephens
was to accompany McLeery to the main prison gates. When Stephens
peeped inside Evans’ prison hole he was shocked to see the injured
McLeery there. This wounded McLeery claimed that he knew where Evans
