Definition of Sahabah
In the science of hadith, there are several elements, namely the narrator, sanad and
matan. The narrator is the subject or someone who narrates, receives, preserves and conveys
the hadith by mentioning the chain of transmission. The sanad is the path or chain of
transmission that connects the mushannif (author of the book) to the Prophet Muhammad.
While the matan is the content or content of what is conveyed by the rawi.
One of the important factors in the achievement of hadith is the sanad and narrators.
The sanad has a function to determine the transmission of the hadith. In the sanad there are
narrators who are the perpetrators of the transmission or narration of the hadith. One of the
important factors in the transmission of the hadith is the companions of the Prophet.
Companions according to language are the plural form of the word Shahiba which
means friend or friend, Shahiba has plural forms besides companions, namely ashabun,
shahbun and shihabun. Companions according to Ibn Hajar

Anyone who met the Prophet Muhammad lived as a Muslim and died as a Muslim.
That is, anyone who met the Prophet (in a state of Islam and died in a state of Islam)
is called a Sahabah, but people who did not meet the Prophet Muhammad died are not called
Sahabah. Then the meaning of the state of Muslim and died in a Muslim state is to meet the
Prophet Muhammad in a state of having entered Islam, as for the disbeliever is not a friend,
and died in a state of Islam.
According to Imam Bukhari in the book History and Introduction to Hadith
mentioned:
وذكر اإلمام أحم د.من صحب النبي صعلم او رأه من المسلمين فهو من أصحابه
أفض ل الن اس بع د ه ؤالء: ثم ق ال.من أصحاب رس ول الل ه ص علم أه ل الب در
ك ل من ص حبه س نة او ش هرا او.أصحاب رسول الله ص لعم الق رأن بعث فيهم
يوما او ساعة او رأه فهو من أصحابه له من الصحبة على قدر ما يصبحه و ك انت
.سابقة معه و سمعه منه و نظر اليه
One who accompanies the Prophet or sees him among the Muslims is considered his
Sahabah. Imam Ahmad explained that among the companions of the Prophet were those who
fought in the battle of Badr. Then he said: The most excellent people among humans after the
Sahabah of the Prophet, are those who lived in the century when the Prophet was sent among
them, whoever saw the Prophet whether a year, several months, a day or just a moment can
see him, is classified as his Sahabah, and is entitled to accept his friendship with the Prophet
according to the measurement that can accompany the prophet, can hear the hadith from the
Prophet and can see the Prophet.
