Unit 8: Psychological Perspecties for ealth and Social Care
P1: Explain the principal psychological
perspecties
In this assignment I will explain the principal psychological perspectiess
The main psychological perspectie
An approach is a perspectie that iniolies certain assumptons about human behaiiour,
the way, they functon, which aspects of them are worthy of study and what research
methods are appropriate for undertaking this studys There may be seieral diferent
theories within an approach but they all share these common assumptonss Sometmes
people wonder why there are so many diferent psychology perspecties and whether
one approach is correct and others wrongs Most psychologists would agree that no one
perspectie is correct, although in the past in the early days of psychology, the
behaiiourist would haie said their perspectie was the only true scientic ones
The psychological perspectie is the result of a synthesis of cognitie and behaiioral
psychology theoriess In this traditon of research, three strategies are clear: (1) the
adopton of attude change as the most interestng dependent iariable, () ) the
modeling of communicaton (ises, persuasion) as a special case of behaiioral learning
theory, and (3) the reliance on experimental social psychology for conceptual and
methodological research strategiess The basic communicaton model proposed by
olland and Janis (1959) conceiied of the communicaton situaton in terms of message
content, source identty, type of channel, and setng operatng through predispositon
factors (situatonal elements that determine what audience members atend to and
how) and internal mediatng processes (atenton, comprehension, and acceptance) in
order to produce obseriable communicaton efects (changes in opinion, percepton,
afect, and acton)s The challenge of a message was to gain the receiierss interest, then
produce the intended efect with understandable and memorable contents The
receiierss interest, of course, could be afected by external qualites of the subbect of
communicaton or sender, as well as internal interests, beliefs, and cognitie processing
capacites (Andersen, 197) )s Thus, the model retained the linear noton of technical
communicaton theories but adopted a strong emphasis on the efects component of
the communicaton processs
