Unit 4 - Assignment 2

Investigate the feasibility of a proposed event

Investigation of the staging of several events in order to determine common
success factors.

Event 1
London Olympics 2012

The Olympic Games are huge international multi sport event
which takes part every four years in a different country every
time. In 2005 London was selected to be the host of the
Summer Olympics 2012. To host the games successfully
redevelopment work was required, including building a brand
new 200 hectare Olympic Park in East London and making use
of other already existing venues.
Involves athletes from more than 200 national Olympic
committees.

The huge success of the Olympics was due to a lot of factors.
The great support and contribution of the British public
created a great environment for the athletes, helping and
inspiring them to put tome of the best performances ever
seen.
Their marketing partners played crucial role in the success of the games, without them the Olympic
Games would have been a complete disaster. The team of world class companies provided services,
products, funding, people and expertise, all of which contributed to building the event, raising the
awareness of the public and increasing the tickets sold. The highly successful merchandising
programme included, broadcasting on major channels, great sponsorships and licensing
programmes. This resulted in reaching incredible 90% of the UK population.
High health and safety was another really important aspect of the success of this event. Looking
after their workers and volunteers was number one priority. The organisation have been following
all relevant Europe and UK legislations and standers, providing safe work environment for all of the
40 000 people who worked on the project. The strong leadership with the help of contractor’s
contribution they managed to crate high health and safety standers, resulting in accident frequency
rate to be well below the national average.

The London Olympics 2012 received great reaction from around the world, because of their smooth
organisation, celebrating the volunteers – the public enthusiasts and British military, who helped to
make this event happen. Though there were some small incidents the London Olympics 2012 were
rated highly successful having in mind the rising standards and competition amongst countries
across the globe. The success if this games has gone down in history as a national celebration and a
time of national pride. In addition the fact that the Olympic venues are sustained and used event
after the games shows sporting legacy and is seen as opportunity to host future Olympics. The
London Olympics 2012 were also a financial success busting the UK economy with £9.9bn

Unit 4 - Assignment 2

Event 2
IPhone X product launch

First the name of new phone – X had a big role in the
way the product was marketed. A product from the
future, skipping the iPhone 9 and bringing to the
consumer the iPhone X from 2 years in the future,
today. This created excitement among iPhone users
and the huge price tag of £1000 didn’t seem that
expensive anymore. Of course Apple can’t actually
bring a phone from the future but that was a
marketing strategy they used to engage and excite
their customers.

For the product launch event Apple used entirely new location - they build a glass theatre in
Cupertino and named it after the founder of Apple, Steve Jobs Theatre, which helped to create in the
consumer the feeling of something brand new, never seen before. The 1,000-seat auditorium, has 20
foot tall glass walls and huge solid silver dick for a roof that creates the illusion of floating. This
interesting peace of architecture created a lot of media interest and discussions. David Hargreaves
who managed the agency that did Apple’s public relations in UK said that, having the IPhone X
reviled in the new auditorium reinforced Apple as a design leader and created the best environment
to showcase the new exceptional iPhone.

Another strategy they used was the old trick with information “leaks” in the media. This leaks no
matter if accidental or on purpose, only help to build the interest for the new product and get
people discussing. There were thousands of videos, posts and forums that discussed the iPhone X
long before the actual launch. This created a huge way of interest and when the actual phone was
available for pre orders people didn’t hesitate to upgrade, and even some people moved over from
android and google.

IPhone X product launch was recognised as the largest Apple product launch in history. Introducing
new features like facial recognition and edge to edge screen got the media and the people talking.
The success of this iPhone launch was huge, IPhone X sold 25% more than the previous record
holder the IPhone 6, regardless of the £1000 price tag.

Event 3
NCS Charity Even

Last summer I worked as a mentor for NCS. As part of the
course I had to help my group, to organise a social action
event. My team of young people decided to create a party
event with theme mental health. The first stage of
organising our event was to assign the right people to the
right task. I already knew my group very well so it wasn’t
hard for me to match the right skill sets in my group to the
according tasks. For example some people were good at art
and drawing so I made them responsible for the visual side
