SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

Case study@IMPAQ JUN 2022

CSR vs. CSI

Corporate social responsibility (CSR) is how companies manage the business process to make
an overall positive impact on society and minimize any adverse impact on the environment.
Corporate social investment (CSI) is any social development activity that is not undertaken with
the aim of generating business income. In other words, CSR is what you do inside the business to
take care of society and the planet and CSI is what you do outside the business to take care of
society and the planet.

Keep the above information in mind and determine whether the following scenarios can be
seen as CSR , CSI or both.

Starbucks has established guidelines that ensure the company sources coffee
that is sustainably grown and processed.
Ben and Jerry's only uses fair trade ingredients and has developed a
sustainability program for dairy farms.
For every candle sold, Altered Seasons provides a meal to an American in need
through Feeding America.

Coyuchi uses only natural dyes and organic cotton in an effort to reduce or
even eliminate the release of chemicals into waterways during processing.
A portion of Out of Africa's proceeds are donated to organizations that provide
education and medical care to children.
Homes built by Prime Five Homes are not typical homes. Each of these
modern, sustainable homes is equipped to use less energy, gas and water, so
buyers know they're moving into a property that's better for the environment
