Question 1: Reading Comprehension

13-Year-Old Boy Saves His Baseball Coach's Life by Administering CPR and Calling
911.

1 In March 2016, a 13-year-old boy based in Arizona, named Nathan Boyer, saved the
life of his baseball coach, Isaac Wenrich, with quick thinking and action. Wenrich suddenly
collapsed on the playing field in an apparent heart attack. Despite being in such a
frightening and delicate situation, Nathan was in the right frame of mind to dial 911 on his
coach’s cellular phone, roll him over, and perform CPR.

2 Though the youngster didn’t have the tools or the understanding of the paramedics
who later arrived on the scene, he kept a cool head and applied basic first aid techniques—
and thus answered the call to save his coach’s life.

3 Isaac Wenrich, a minor league baseball player for the Florence Freedom of Kentucky,
who coaches kids during the off-season, was running drills with eighth-grader Nathan
Boyer in Chandler, Arizona.

4 The two were alone one afternoon when Wenrich, 26, collapsed. Katy Huetter,
Wenrich's girlfriend, said, "Nathan had to do CPR for 4 minutes before the paramedics got
there. They said that if he didn't do CPR, Isaac would be dead right now.”

5 A heart attack is one of the most common, life-threatening heart conditions in the
world. If you think a person is having, or has had, a heart attack, sit them down and make
them as comfortable as possible, and call the South African medical-emergency number,
10177, for an ambulance.

6 Symptoms of a heart attack include a tight-squeezing chest pain (usually located in the
centre or left side of the chest), feeling weak, pain or discomfort in the jaw, neck, back and
arms and shortness of breath.
