Introduction
Research by the Internal Recruitment Division at Parker
Bridge suggests that one out of every twenty-five
employees quits within one week of starting a new job
because of a poor induction. Therefore it is very important
that inductions programs are well designed and executed
professionally.
The main objective of any induction program should be to
effectively integrate a new recruit into the company and to do so in a quick and
painless way. Further it should educate the new employees about the practices,
culture and performance standards of the company as well as the safety procedures.
Inductions are very important because they leave the first impression of the company
set the tone of the of the employer-employee relationship. As seen above a bed
induction can result in the employee leaving the company or in an incident if the
safety procedures weren’t explained well.
The current induction programme of Alton Towers has a lot of areas that need
improvement, this document contains a new improved induction programme which
has an aim to increaser the employees’ satisfaction thus improve the retention rate
as well as the health and safety of both employees and customers. Alton Towers is a
Theme Park and holiday resort which operates from the end of March to the end of
October. This means that most employees are employed only temporarily. Because
the company is in the entertainment/resort business the customer experience is very
important – Alton Towers relays heavily on returning customers. This new improved
training programme will also ensure that employees are prepared to meet the
customers’ expectations thus providing the best customer experience. Further the
company is very much family-oriented meaning that the environment has to be family
friendly. This also means that high standards of health and safety are required to
ensure that everyone is safe. To achieve safe environment, it is very important to
provide good training programme for the employees. The following induction
programme takes into account all of the above points and improves the current
programme offered by Alton Towers.
Research on the existing Alton Towers
induction programme
I went on glassdoor.com to see the reviews from former Alton Towers employees.
While a lot of the reviews are positive and say that the company provides free food
others complain that the managers don’t treat the staff well. This means that in the

future managers have to be careful to treat staff better because poorly treated and
unhappy staff won’t be able to provide good customers’ experience.
Induction plan
P5 Plan an appropriate induction programme for a group of new starters in a
selected business using your own research.
Pre-employment – this stage will follow right after an employee have been hired
from the Alton Towers. Each successful applicant will be emailed a welcome pack
which contains useful information about Alton Towers – they can familiarise with the
company in their leisure time. It will be easy to read and fun so the new employee
enjoy reading it. There will be tips how to socialise on the first day and make friends
with colleagues. The pack will also contain information about the upcoming induction
days: the starting day, time and timetable.
First day timetable

First week will involve filling in any gaps in the new employees’ knowledge, for
example introducing them to members of staff who weren’t available during the first
few days. Further each new recruit will be paired with an experienced member of
staff which will help them get into their role faster and easier. The new employees
will be introduced to the large premises of Alton Towers and will be given maps to
help them navigate through the theme park. Also during this first week individual
