Crop: Plants of same kind are cultivated at one place on a
large scale is said to be crop
-> There are two types of crops:
[i] Kharif crops: The crops which are sown in the rainy
season are called Kharif crops. These crops are generally
grown from June to September in India.
e.g- Paddy, Maize, Soyabean, Groundnut and cotton.
[ii] Rabi crops: The crops which are grown in the winter
season are called Rabi crops. These crops are generally
grown from October to march in India.
e.g- Wheat, Gram, Pea, Mustard and Linseed.
Q. why paddy can’t be grown in the winter season?
ANS. Paddy can’t be grown in the winter season because
paddy requires a lot of water. Therefore, it is grown in the
rainy season.

Hoe: It is a simple tool which is used for removing weeds and

Cultivator: Nowadays, ploughing is done by tractor – driven
cultivator. The use of cultivator saves labour and time.

separate good and healthy seeds from the demaged seeds.
