Unit 4: business communications
P4: write a report to evaluate the external corporate communications of an existing product or
service
Mrs. chibanguza

In this assignment, I am going to write a report that evaluates the
external corporate communications of a product or service that
already exists. The service I have chosen to do is the advert for
the Cadbury Gorilla. In this advert, Cadbury uses a gorilla to
present to the audience that if a gorilla is able to experience a
delightful moment, so does anyone else that is willing to try the
product of Cadbury. This is the link to the advert of the Cadbury
Gorilla: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ihkQWoLfyk

Some people may decide to skip this advert as the beginning is very calm so it doesn’t bring
much attention to the advert. Also, due to the beginning being so calm it may result in people
feeling sleepy as nothing is really happening, apart from the gorilla sitting there. In addition,
some people may skip the advert because the background song that plays is by Phil Collins ‘in
the air tonight’ might be disliked by some people so they would decide to skip it.
However, some people may decide not to skip the advert, due to the song as they might be fans
of the artist - Phil Collins, and they might enjoy the song ‘in the air tonight’. Also around 3
minutes in the advert, the gorilla starts playing the drums bringing attention to the advert and
giving energy back to the audience.

The format of the advert is a song by Phil Collins ‘in the air tonight’ and dance. Throughout the
whole advert, the soundtrack and the gorilla used to create a simple advert but yet so catchy
due to the song and structure of the advert. The style of the advert was made this way in order
to create humor for the audience to watch and enjoy. Also, the purple background has been
used to represent the Cadbury Company.

In the advert, there are two main camera angles. One of the camera
angles is close shots of the gorilla and the other one are short shots
of the gorilla playing the drums. The advert uses these two main
camera angles, to present to the audience that this is the focus of the
advert.
The sound of the advert is very specific
as all you hear is the catchy song by
Phil Collins ‘in the air tonight’. This is a plus to the advert as it
makes the audience watch the advert with a well-known song,
obviously if they decide to watch it.
Due to editing the video of the gorilla, in the beginning, is slowed
down to suit the calming effect of the song playing in the
background. But then the footage of the video becomes the
normal pace as when the gorilla starts to play the drums creating
a loud chorus and ‘waking up’ the audience.
Lastly, the music is the main important feature of the advert as that's what will make/may help
the audience remember the advert. Also, the music is an important feature of the advert
