siblings in a shack in an informal settlement. His mother is working long hours

sweets at a shop. He claims that he was hungry and that he also wanted to give his

Handling by the Police Official:
When a minor like Lawrence is caught committing a petty crime, such as theft, the
police are required to handle the situation according to the provisions set out in the
Child Justice Act 75 of 2008 in South Africa. This act is designed to deal with
children who are in conflict with the law in a manner that is appropriate to their
age and development.
