Chapter 5 of the leadership challenge focuses on the importance of leaders, establishing a
clear set of values that they believe in and embodying those values in their actions. This chapter
also discusses the value of emphasizing shared commitments and values. Future oriented
thinking is a really valuable part of leadership. For example, in work and many environments,
there is always a step-by-step goal to get to where we want to be in a specific amount of time. In
our women in business organization, we have a schedule layout of how we want our
organization needs to go, and what we need to get there.a another example can be in group
projects. If we have a deadline for a presentation, we are able to sufficiently apply our
knowledge and skills to create a presentation within that deadline. For example, within our teach
and learns, we know when we need to submit our zoom video, and we know what we need to
get there. Therefore, our steps are simple. We must schedule a time to meet and prepare a
presentation so that when we meet, the meeting goes efficiently, and we are able to submit
when the time expires. When we know our desired expectations and desired outcomes every
week, it makes it easier to do our tasks and know what it is that we want to accomplish. If we
want to accomplish a good grade, we can make sure that we set a time aside to put forth in our
academics and each class. It is valuable to know what we want in advance, so that we can plan
ahead accordingly. The chapter also insists that we should inspire the team to think creatively
and innovatively to achieve the shared vision. When our women in business officers were
planning the next semester, we first anticipated our outcomes. We wanted our members to have
knowledge in interviews, negotiation, and professional development. In order to achieve that, we
need to plan events that would capture all of the goals we talked about. Once that happened,
we were able to easily identify what events, meetings, and socials that needed to be held in
order to achieve our goals regarding this.
Another big thing that these chapters discussed is fostering collaboration. It is important as
leaders that we promote teamwork and cooperation. In order to do this, a leader must build trust
and create opportunities for team members to work together towards a common goal. I
participate in a nonprofit organization as the president of the next GEN advisory council. In this
group, we all have the same goal of raising money for women and children in need. When we
know the clear goal, we know exactly what it is that we need to do to provide fundraising
opportunities for our mission. With meeting and discussing with each other on a regular basis,
we know that we have the characteristics of cooperation and communication. This also allows
us to build trust among our organization because we have sufficiently communicated and we
know how to work together towards our common goal. It is important that leadership practices
can vary depending on the specific context and situation, such as my nonprofit organization that
we are in. Our mission in this is to support families that are struggling and women and children
in poverty. As a leader of this organization, I need to adapt and approach the needs of our team
to continuously strive in order to improve our organization and my leadership skills.
chapter 5 also discusses a lot about leading by example. Whatever a leader does, followers,
take note of, and also learn to do. For example, as president of the women in business
organization, it is important for me to be punctual. When I am punctual, and can always arrive
on time for meetings, appointments, and other commitments, it shows respect for others times,
and sets an expectation of punctuality for their team. That way, instead of having to reinforce
